Israel coalition government a threat to security – Netanyahu
Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that a proposed new unity government would be “a danger for the security” of the country.
The prime minister has urged right-wing politicians not to support a deal after ultra-nationalist leader Naftali Bennett said he would join talks with centrist Yair Lapid.
Lapid has until Wednesday to form a new coalition government and if successful, it would end Netanyahu’s time as Israel’s longest-serving PM.
Netanyahu has in the past used many politicised issues to stay in power. i
Political analysts from the US have suggested that he actively engaged in the conflicts in order to appease the certain groups within the government.
This included the most recent attacks on Al Aqsa and Sheikh Jarrah in order to demonstrate his tough stance towards Palestinian and pursuing more Israeli settlements.
