The UK has enjoyed plenty of bank holidays over the summer months, with a couple of consecutive long weekends earlier in May giving many of us some well-earned time off.
While the May Day bank holiday falls on the first Monday of the month every year, 2023 saw us get a bit of extra downtime to mark the coronation of King Charles on Monday, May 8.
Now well into August, with the end of the summer unfortunately on the horizon, bank holidays are running a bit thin on the ground.
But is there a bank holiday today?
Is today a bank holiday?
Yes! Today – Monday, August 28, 2023 – is indeed a bank holiday.
It’s the annual Summer Bank Holiday.
So, whether you’re in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland, the day is officially classed as a bank holiday – and means many across the country will be off work today.

When is the next bank holiday?
We’d recommend you make the most of this one because despite the rush of long weekends earlier in the year – you’ve got quite a while to wait until the next bank holiday.
Good folks of Scotland, I’m afraid you will have to wait until St Andrew’s Day on Thursday, November 30,but for everybody else, it’s even worse.
This August date marks the last bank holiday until Christmas time.
So, make the most of today and enjoy…
