Things are going from bad to worse for Insomniac (Picture: Sony)
An early version of the PS5 exclusive Wolverine game has been leaked by hackers and now some fans have managed to get it working on PC.
This week has been absolutely disastrous for Insomniac and Sony, but the worst news of all is that amongst the more 1 million files stolen by hackers was executable code for the upcoming Wolverine game.
It’s taken a while for ‘fans’ to get it working but it’s now reported that they have a version of the game running on PC (games are always developed on PC, even if they’re console exclusives), video of which will no doubt start appearing online soon.
We obviously won’t be linking to that, but footage of an early version of the game has already been widely shared online – although it’s currently unclear if they’re the same version.
Although there’s no official release date from Sony, information from the hack suggests that Wolverine is due to be released in autumn 2026.
That implies that there’s still quite a bit of work to do, and that the game is not yet content complete, although, as with anything else from the leak, plans could easily have changed even before the information was stolen.
Now the that playable version is out there, along with all the other information, it’s unclear what Insomniac will do about it. Not many people will end up playing the stolen version of the game, but the footage will have been doing the rounds for years by the time it’s released in 2026.
It really is a nightmare situation, but Sony hasn’t even publicly acknowledged the hack yet, so it’s unclear if they’ll ever make a statement about it.

According to the hacked information, the Venom half-sequel is due to be released first, in autumn 2025, but there’s so far no sign that the hackers were able to get playable code for that as well. Although that may just be a matter of time, as people sift through all the data files.
Although Sony will do everything in its power to have the hackers arrested, it remains to be seen whether they’ll do anything about people sharing videos and files from the hack, since all of them were illegally obtained.
The first streamer stupid enough to start showing footage from the game is likely to get a nasty surprise though, from Sony’s lawyers.
