‘We are profoundly thankful for the enduring musical legacy he has bestowed upon us all.’
No other information about his cause of death has been shared.
However, his family promised to ‘provide further details’ in ‘the days to come’ as they ‘honour and remember the remarkable life’ of the late star.
Twilley’s last social media post just two days ago said that he was awaiting surgery.
Shortly before that, he wrote on Facebook: ‘I’m not feelin’ that great today… My leg is Very Messed up… Nighty, night, night [sic]’.
Born in Tulsa in 1951, Twilley broke into the music scene alongside his friend, Phil Seymour, who died in 1993).

Banding together, they formed Oister and, several years later, they signed a record deal and made the top 20 hit I’m On Fire at the Church Studio, releasing it under the name, Dwight Twilley Band.
In the late 1970s, both men pursued solo careers and, in 1984, Twilley scored another top 20 tune with Girls.
Throughout their time, Dwight Twilley Band released four albums, including two many years after they disbanded.
As a soloist, Twilley released 20 more records of his own, including compilations.
His last album, Always, was released in November 2014 through Twilley’s own label, Big Oak Records.
