I’m A Celebrity set shuts for 24 hours after severe flooding near Australian jungle weeks before series launch

The new series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here has hit a stumbling block with producers forced to close the set due to a severe weather warning.

A new batch of celebrities are due to arrive in the Australian jungle for the upcoming series, which will debut on ITV in November with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly returning as hosts.

However, any production that was underway has been halted due to severe flooding in the area.

An ITV spokesperson said: ‘We closed [the] site for 24 hours as a precautionary measure due to the inclement weather.’

It’s not the first time adverse conditions have put a spanner in the works for production operations after filming at Gwrych Castle in North Wales was hampered by Storm Arwen in November 2021.

The show had already begun when episodes were cancelled for several nights while the production team repaired the significant damage caused by the bad weather.

The new series, which will return to Australia for the first time since 2019, is apparently set to start on Sunday, November 6.

Contestants haven’t yet been announced but, of course, rumours are running wild.

Stars that are speculated to appear in the new series include Mike Tindall, Boy George, Love Island’s Olivia Attwood, Lionesses star Jill Scott, Strictly star and comedian Seann Walsh, Celebrity Gogglebox’s Babatunde Aleshe, and broadcaster Charlene White.

Meanwhile, hype for the new series is amping up after the release of a new trailer.

The video builds on from the teaser trailer shared by Ant and Dec, which sees Dec grow concerned as Ant flings luggage out of a helicopter en route to Australia.

Hilariously stumbling over the phonetic alphabet over a walkie-talkie as he prepares to jump from the aircraft, Ant lets Dec know in no uncertain terms that he’s going to have to follow him.

Ant then thrusts a wad of contracts at Dec while dangling out of the door and tells him gleefully: ‘Remember, wherever I go, you have to go!’

As Dec looks at the ‘Always Together Contract’, he laments: ‘I wish I’d never signed that thing,’ before also plunging from the helicopter.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here returns on November 6.
