This story dominates the news – online and in print – as one of the country’s biggest trending stories. It’s picking up international coverage as well. The tabloids are heavily questioning the role of the BBC – what they knew and why they didn’t sack Edwards following his arrest. Other publications are reviewing the ‘downfall’ of one of Britain’s most well-known TV presenters.
Trending – Huw Edwards pleads guilty to indecent images of children
Today’s biggest trending story is news that the former BBC news presenter Huw Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children on Wednesday.
Many of the papers – and online discussion – surround the BBC and why they didn’t sack Huw Edwards when it learned of the arrest. The BBC have confirmed they knew of Edward’s arrest back in November. He was one of the organisation’s biggest paid stars – and some licence fee payers are furious that their money went towards paying Edwards’ salary while he was being investigated for making indecent images of children.
Away from questioning his employer, some of the newspapers look at what they call the ‘downfall’ of the disgraced former news reader. Edwards has led the TV coverage of some of the country’s – and world’s – biggest news stories including the death of Queen Elizabeth.
