Humza Yousaf resigns after a tumultuous year leading the devolved administration, marked by declining support for his pro-independence Scottish National Party (SNP).
Yousaf had been under increasing pressure to step down since abruptly terminating the SNP’s power-sharing agreement with the Scottish Greens in the Scottish parliament last week.
Furthermore, his government’s abandonment of ambitious targets for transitioning to net-zero carbon emissions earlier had provoked ire from the Greens.
