As the Lionesses prepare to take on Spain in the Women’s World Cup Final this Sunday, many people are wondering how much the England players will earn from the tournament.

They became the first ever England team to reach the final, after beating Australia on their home turf.

The final follows England’s triumph at Euro 2022, where Spain were their most difficult opponents. It took an extra-time winner from England in the quarter-finals to beat them.

Manager Sarina Weigman will shortly be announcing her starting XI, but how much can the players expect to earn from the Women’s World Cup?

How much will the players earn?

The total FIFA prize pot for the Women’s World Cup is $110 million (£85 million).

According to Talksport, the Lionesses received £10,000 each to help families attend the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Due to FIFA’s new pay structure, they won’t receive a bonus (traditionally, male players give this away, but earn much more than the Lionesses from club contracts and endorsements).

Group stages

The Sun says teams knocked out in the group stages received £24,000 per player.

A total of 16 teams were eliminated in the group stages, including Italy, Germany, Brazil and Argentina.

Last 16

For those who were knocked out in the last 16, the fee was £47,000 per player.

There were eight teams eliminated at this stage, including Denmark and the USA.

Quarter finals

Four teams went out in the quarter finals – Columbia, France, Netherlands and Japan.

Each player in those teams earned £70,000.

Semi finals

Two teams were eliminated in the semi finals – Australia (who lost to England) and Sweden (who lost to Spain).

Their play-off for third and fourth place will take place tomorrow (Saturday, August 19) with players in the losing team receiving £128,000, and the winning players earning £141,000.

It will air live on ITV1, with coverage starting at 8.30am.

Final

England and Spain will battle it out for first and second places.

If the Lionesses win, they will take home £213,000 each, while the runners-up with earn £153,000.

How can I watch the final on TV?

Both BBC1 and ITV1 will be screening the final live, with kick off at 11am BST.

Live coverage will start at 10am on BBC1, and 9.25am on ITV1. The third place play-off between Australia and Sweden will be on Saturday (August 19) at 9am BST, with coverage starting from 8.30am on ITV1.
