Chelsea and Manchester United take a temporary break from their epic Women’s Super League title race this afternoon when the two sides meet at a sold-out Wembley for the Women’s FA Cup final.

Chelsea are just a point behind United in the WSL table having played one game less, and today’s final presents both clubs with the opportunity to move one step closer to securing a historic league and cup double.

So, with two of the finest teams in the land set to get head-to-head in a mammoth showdown, exactly how many times have Chelsea and Manchester United won the Women’s FA Cup?

Let’s take a look at their record in the competition.

How many times have Chelsea won the Women’s FA Cup?

Chelsea have won the Women’s FA Cup four times in their history.

Their first victory in the competition came in 2015, with a first half goal from Ji So-yun sealing a 1-0 victory over Notts County.

A second title was added in 2018, with the Blues prevailing 3-1 over London rivals Arsenal.

Chelsea got the better of Arsenal once again in the 2021 final, running out 3-0 winners in the game which coincided with the centenary anniversary of the FA’s decision to ban women’s football from the grounds of its affiliated clubs.

The 2022 final saw Chelsea beat Manchester City 3-2 in extra-time, with Sam Kerr netting the winner after City had equalised with just one minute of normal time remaining.

Victory in today’s final will see Chelsea become only the third team to win three successive Women’s FA Cup finals after Southampton (1971-1973) and Arsenal (four times, 2006-2009).

Only Arsenal (14), Southampton (8) and Doncaster Rovers Belles (6) have won the Women’s FA Cup more times than Chelsea.

How many times have Manchester United won the Women’s FA Cup?

Manchester United have yet to lift the trophy in the Women’s FA Cup.

In fact, Sunday’s game is the first time the club will have featured in the final.

United are aiming to become the first team to win in their first appearance in the Women’s FA Cup final since Manchester City in 2017.

However, they will need to do something they have never done before in their history – beat Chelsea in a competitive game having drawn one and lost eight of their previous nine meetings.

Manchester United only reintroduced their Women’s team in 2018 after a 13 year absence following their successful application to join the new Women’s Championship.
