The Premier League has lived up to its billing as the greatest league in the world yet again this season.

Arsenal and Manchester City are locked in a titanic title tussle at the top of the summit, and Manchester United are well and truly back as a competitive force under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag.

Tottenham, Newcastle and Liverpool are in a battle to secure Champions League football for next season – but don’t discount the likes of Fulham, Brighton and Brentford getting in on the act.

Further down the table, a whole host of teams are desperate to escape the Premier League relegation trap door, including Everton, who have never been relegated from the competition.

Here is how many games are in the Premier League 2022/23 season and when the current campaign will end.

How many games are in a Premier League season?

As is always the case, there are 38 games in a Premier League season.

With 20 clubs in the league, each side play 19 home fixtures and 19 away fixtures across the course of the campaign.

If two or more teams are tied on points after the 38 matches, then goal difference will be used as the first tiebreak to separate the sides.

The next tiebreak will be the team who collected the most points in the head-to-head matches.

If clubs still cannot be separated, then the team who scored the most away goals in the head-to-head games will finish ahead of the other.

When does the Premier League season end?

The current Premier League season is due to finish on Sunday, May 28.

All ten of the fixtures for matchday 38 will kick-off at the same time, 4.30pm, in order to ensure fairness across the league with potentially the title race, European qualification and relegation battle going down to the final day.

The FA Cup final will take place the following weekend, Saturday, June 3.

The Champions League final will then bring the curtain down on the club calendar on Saturday, June 10.

When does next season’s Premier League start?

The Premier League has confirmed that next season’s competition will start on Saturday, August 12.

This will give Premier League clubs 11 weeks to prepare for the new season following the end of the current campaign.
