There’s no denying that Home Alone has become a staple at Christmas (Picture: 20th Century Fox)
Home Alone has become as much of a staple at Christmas as a tree, mince pies and a stocking – with millions settling down to watch the 1990 festive classic every single year.
By now, we all know how the story goes – Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) is accidentally deserted at home while his family swan off to Paris for the holidays, and is left to fight for his life against burglars Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Heard).
Despite watching it countless times over the years, fans have recently picked up on a heartbreaking split-second scene, which made the youngster’s plight even sadder.
On Christmas eve, after he fought off the bad guys, Kevin painstakingly prepared his home for the big day, leaving out a plate of snacks and a glass milk out for Santa Claus to enjoy while dropping off presents for the family.
However, when he rushed downstairs the next morning, the camera panned across his empty home in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, with his offering still intact, confirming that Father Christmas appeared to skip the McCallister residence that year.
Chris Ramsey was among those who had spotted the sad scene for the first time, and begged bosses to alter the footage more than 30 years on.

In a Christmas special of the Sh**ged Married Annoyed podcast, he fumed: ‘What I don’t like about Home Alone… You know how they remake films and remake songs, and remaster them?
‘We should get every single copy – we should go to Disney+ – and they need to make that glass of milk, that he’s left out for Santa at the end of Home Alone, they need to CGI the milk out of that glass.
‘That glass, when the camera whips around… Kevin gets up in the morning, he runs downstairs to see there’s no presents – you can’t really see the bottom of the tree but there’s no extra presents.
‘That carrot is still there and the glass of milk is still full. Someone needs to go to Disney+ – hackers, if you’re listening, get yourselves into Disney+ and CGI that milk.’
When wife Rosie Ramsey suggested that Santa might not have been thirsty by the time he got to the house, Chris was having none of it, fuming: ‘So he drinks next door’s milk and but he doesn’t drink our milk?
‘I’m telling you, we need to CGI!’
The comedian isn’t the only one who noticed the glaring issue, as many viewers have flocked to Twitter to voice their upset.
‘I just noticed, in Home Alone, that Kevin puts cookies and milk out for Santa but with no parents about, the cookies and milk are still there in the morning. :(,’ one said.

‘In Home Alone (1990), not only did Kevin wake up to an empty house on Christmas day, but be also probably realized that Santa isn’t real. The milk and cookies he left out weren’t consumed,’ another wrote.
A Twitter user agreed: ‘No one wants to talk about how the cookies & milk Kevin left out for Santa are left untouched at the end of Home Alone Goddamn heartbreaking.’
‘Kinda wild that in Home Alone you can see the milk and cookies Kevin left for Santa in the background completely untouched Christmas morning [sic],’ a viewer noticed.

A Twitter user questioned: ‘Watching Home Alone. Does Kevin find out about Santa when he wakes up Christmas morning and the milk and cookies are uneaten and no gifts are under the tree?’
‘The saddest part about Home Alone is Kevin puts out milk and cookies for Santa and they never get eaten. So not only does his family leave him behind, but he also finds out the truth about Santa! So sad,’ a commenter complained.
As one added: ‘Why didn’t Kevin freak out that Santa didn’t drink the milk or eat the cookies? #HomeAlone #christmas #santa.’
It’s a valid question…
