Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Blackshaw) made a huge decision in Hollyoaks, resolving to die at home surrounded by her loved ones.

The popular character, as viewers know, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year and subsequently received treatment for the disease, before being notified that she needed a stem cell transplant.

After a kidney infection and a bout of norovirus, however, she ended up in hospital where doctors told her that they could no longer perform the transplant, and that no further treatment options available to her.

In other words, Juliet’s condition is now terminal.

Juliet, heartbroken, subsequently confided her prognosis in mum Donna-Marie Quinn (Lucy-Jo Hudson), before informing James (Gregory Finnegan) and Romeo (Owen Warner) that she’s going to die in emotional scenes.

Determined to support her, Juliet’s loved ones have rallied around her, hoping to make ever moment count, while Juliet herself made a bucket list of things she’d like to do, ticking a number of them off already.

Things, however, took a heartbreaking turn in Tuesday’s (June 6) first look offering of the Channel 4 soap, with Juliet struggling to walk, which led to a visit from the nurse.

Juliet was told that it was time to move to the next step of her care plan, which involved moving to a hospice (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Juliet was asleep at the time of the visit, so she was keen to know why the nurse had been and, what’s more, why they were coming back.

Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), fighting tears, informed her that it’s time to move to the next phase of the plan, which means going into a hospice.

Donna-Marie struggled to hold back the tears, knowing this means the end is approaching sooner than they thought.

Juliet, however, refused to go into a hospice, instead deciding that she wants to die at home surrounded by her loved ones.

    No, you’re crying.

Hollyoaks continues Wednesday June 7 at 7pm on E4 or stream the next episode from midnight on All4.
