Hoda Kotb’s break from the Today show has finally been explained after fans were left concerned by her absence.
The 58-year-old has not been part of the live program since mid-February, leaving many questioning the reason behind her temporary exit.
In that time, Savannah Guthrie – who was forced to leave mid-way through yesterday’s episode – has been leading the way alongside a selection of stand-in hosts, including Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin.
On today’s instalment, Craig gave viewers an update on how the pair are both doing, revealing that Hoda is away for a ‘family health matter’.
‘We mentioned that Savannah and Hoda are both off,’ he began. ‘Savannah, she’s home after a positive Covid test yesterday. We are wishing our friend a speeding recovery.
‘As for Hoda, we know a lot of you have been wondering how she’s doing. We can tell you that Hoda’s okay. She’s got a family health matter that she’s been dealing with.
‘We look forward to seeing Hoda and Savannah back at the desk very, very soon.’
Chiming in, Al Roker added: ‘We love you both.’
Quoting a message from the official Today show Twitter account, Al added: ‘We are sending our love to both @SavannahGuthrie and @hodakotb.’

Fans watching on from home agreed, with one penning: ‘Sending Hugs & Healing Prayers to Both Hoda & Savannah.
‘Blessings for a Speedy Recovery.’
‘Wishing them both the best,’ another simply penned.
Savannah tested positive for Covid on Tuesday (Picture: NBC)
Tuesday’s episode of the Today show was thrown into chaos when Savannah was forced to leave filming early after becoming unwell.
The 51-year-old has helmed the morning program since 2012, but had to make a quick exit off screen after finding that she had tested positive for Covid-19.
It was down to Sheinelle to explain why she was missing from the panel.

‘By the way, it has been an interesting morning for us,’ she informed viewers. ‘As we said, Savannah left early, she wasn’t feeling great, so she took a Covid test.
‘It came back positive. So, as soon as we found out, she rushed home to rest up.
‘Savannah, we love you, wishing you a speedy recovery.’
