David Corenswet – best known for his roles in HBO’s We Own This City and Netflix’s The Politician – will replace Henry Cavill as Superman.
Meanwhile, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane in the forthcoming film, titled Superman: Legacy.
David, 29, and 32-year-old Rachel reportedly won the roles over the likes of Nicholas Hoult, Phoebe Dynevor and Emma Mackey.
The signings were apparently rushed through as an actors strike is rumoured to be kicking off on June 30.
Deadline broke the news of the casting, but DC Boss James Gunn soon confirmed it was true on Twitter.
He tweeted: ‘They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.’

In December, 40-year-old Henry announced he wouldn’t be returning to the Superman franchise.
The British actor had confirmed in October that he would be officially reprising the role after making a surprise cameo in the end credits of anti-hero movie Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson.Â
However, just as quickly as he returned, he bowed out again with new DC Studios bosses James and Peter Safran making the bold decision to find a new Superman for the next instalments.Â

Sharing the news in an Instagram post, Henry explained: ‘I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.
‘After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life.
‘The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that.’Â
Henry went on to explain that James and Peter had a new ‘universe to build’ after taking over as heads of the movie studio, but that he wished them and the team ‘the best of luck and the happiest of fortunes’.Â
He then turned his attention to the fans who have supported him, stating: ‘For those who have been by my side through the years we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around.
‘Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will.’Â
