Heineken increases the price of a pint by 6 cents Due to Rising Costs
In a move that is sure to leave beer drinkers feeling the pinch, drinks giant Heineken increases the price of a pint by 6 cents. The company cited increased costs as the reason for the price hike, which is set to take effect from June 4 2024, just as it released its Q1 trading report.
Can you still enjoy a pint at the pub
This news comes hot on the heels of a similar announcement from Guinness-maker Diageo, who recently revealed that they would also be raising their prices by 6c per litre. It seems that the cost of enjoying a pint at the pub is on the rise across the board.
A spokesperson for Heineken Ireland explained the reasoning behind the price increase, stating,
“Due to continued increases in underlying costs we need to adjust our pricing on our draught products. Despite our ongoing efforts to increase productivity and reduce costs, it is impossible for us to absorb all of the increased costs”

Prices are soaring up for beer
While the 6c increase applies to the wholesale price of Heineken’s products, customers can expect to see a higher price jump once additional VAT and excise duty are factored in at the pub.
This means that the actual cost increase for consumers could be even greater than initially anticipated. This latest price hike follows Heineken’s previous increase of 17c per pint in December 2022.
Similarly, Diageo has implemented multiple price increases in the past 18 months, with their most recent hike affecting popular brands like Guinness, Carlsberg, Rockshore, and Hop House 13.
The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI), which represents pubs outside of Dublin, has called on the government to provide further support for the struggling pub sector, which is facing significant cost pressures.
As the price of a pint continues to climb, it remains to be seen how consumers and businesses will navigate these challenging times in the hospitality industry.
