Heathrow flights cancelled after rush hour Elizabeth line delays | UK News

Transport networks across the UK are feeling the heat with school summer holidays now in full swing.

Flights have been cancelled for the second day at London’s Gatwick and Heathrow airports, while disruption has also hit rail networks in the capital.

London commuters faced rush-hour after trains were suspended on the Elizabeth line on Wednesday. Chaos hit during the morning commute, with the entire Abbey Wood-Paddington section suspended due to an electricity supply failure.

@MayorofLondon @TfL the Elizabeth Line for a new line has so many delays it’s becoming a joke; always problems from Paddington onwards and always on the Abbey Wood line!!! why are we paying for such negligence to build a new train on rubbish infrastructure 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Broken down vehicle on the M25

Drivers were warned of severe delays on the M25 in southwest London near Byfleet.

Delays are expected until at least 11.15am anticlockwise between junctions 11 and 10 due to a broken down vehicle, National Highways said.

There are currently delays of 15 minutes against expected traffic as one lane out of four is closed.

No trains on part of the Tube

If you’re travelling on the Tube in northwest London, there is some disruption on a section of the Bakerloo line.

Currently, no trains are running between Queens Park, Harrow and Wealdstone while staff respond to a fire alert at Willesden junction, the latest TfL travel update says.

There is good service on the rest of the line.

    Flight cancellations at London airports

Some flights have been cancelled this morning at London Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

At Heathrow, the 8.50am Eurowings flight to Cologne, 11.15am Virgin Atlantic to Miami and 12.10pm Delta Air Lines flight to Detroit have been axed, according to Flightradar24.

At Gatwick, EasyJet cancelled its 8.25am flight to Geneva and the 9.10am to Palma de Mallorca.

British Airways has axed its 10.35am from Gatwick to Jersey.

It comes days after the global Crowdstrike IT outage halted flights, GP and hospital services and media organisations around the world.
