It was a wet, wet, wet summer weekend – but is it getting any better?(Picture: SWNS)

Just when you thought the UK’s wet August couldn’t get much worse, along comes Storm Antoni.

Storm Antoni saw flooding and high winds across the UK, as gusts reached up to 78mph and trees were blown down – this even led to 100 miles of railway between Exeter and Penzance being blocked.

A danger to life alert was issued on Saturday, when the storm was at its strongest, covering south-western areas of both England and Wales.

While the winds battered the nation, there were also heavy lashings of rain as a reported half a month’s worth of it fell on parts of the UK.

So, after all of that, are we out of the storm? Is Storm Antoni finished and what’s next for the UK weather?

    Has Storm Antoni finished?

The good news is that, yes, Antoni has done his worst.

The Met Office posted on their X account (formerly Twitter) early doors on Sunday morning (August 6) that the storm was clearing away from the UK.

They posted: ‘As #StormAntoni slowly clears away from East Anglia and southeast England it will be a cool start to Sunday with a mixture of sunshine and showers.’

After a wet and windy start to the weekend with #StormAntoni , what is the second half of the weekend looking like?

They later followed up with a forecast for the day ahead, showing that temperatures across the UK were reaching the high 10s, peaking between 17 and 19 degrees around the South East and South West.

Will the weather be better this week?

While Storm Antoni won’t be coming back, the 3-5 day forecast from the Met Office suggests that weather will still remain wet and not summer-worthy.

The overall 3-5 day forecast reads: ‘Tuesday will be rather cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Drier and brighter on Wednesday and Thursday, with just a few showers possible.’

However, in one bright spot, they do add that ‘Temperatures [are] rising, feeling much warmer.’

The highest temperatures forecast currently will fall on Thursday, August 10.

London and Manchester are expected to see the highest temperatures of the week, hitting 25 degrees on this day, with Glasgow also seeing its peak for the week of 24 degrees.
