Harry Maguire is ‘not good enough’ for Manchester United but Alexis Mac Allister is like Paul Scholes, says Louis Saha

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire lacks the quality to play at Old Trafford and should find a new club this summer, according to Louis Saha,

The England international has lost his starting berth this season following the signing of Lisandro Martinez.

However, even with the Argentine and centre-back partner Raphael Varane currently sidelined, Maguire still remains out of the side as he’s behind Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw.

With Maguire now arguably fifith-choice at the club, his future looks bleak under Ten Hag.

And, while Saha has praise for the defender’s application, he believes it’s time for him to move on as he doesn’t have enough ‘quality’ to succeed at the club.

‘A lot of the confidence at Manchester United comes the front line, but also the defence,’ Saha told PaddyPower.

‘We have to wait to see who will start next season alongside Lisandro Martínez and Raphaël Varane. The captain of the club [Harry Maguire] has acted very professionally and did not make any noise or complaints.

‘But based on his quality, he has to find another club because this season has been awful for him. Looking at the midfield area, there is a lot of creativity as well but it’s important to see a very strong pack. They need the balance in defence and midfield.’

Newcastle concerned Chelsea will ask ridiculous money for transfer targets

This summer’s transfer market is set to be a crucial one as Ten Hag hopes to strengthen the spine of his squad.

The Dutchman wants a goalkeeper, a centre-back, a central midfielder and a centre forward but must offload players to raise funds in order to complete his desired business.

One player on United’s radar is Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister but the face heavy competition from rivals Liverpool for the Argentine’s signature.

Saha believes the Argentine would be an excellent addition at Anfield and says the midfielder reminds him of former team-mate Paul Scholes.

‘Alexis Mac Allister would be a good signing for Liverpool. He’s a quality player and he’s very smart. He plays with a nice tempo and can control the rhythm of any side. He’s got the composure that every team wants,’ continued Saha.

‘He reminds me a bit of Paul Scholes back in the day in the way he plays. In the decisive moment, he makes very clever moves. The only area he’s lacking compared to Paul Scholes is in his goals. I really like him and he’s definitely shown he can adapt to any team.

‘Liverpool need a refresher in midfield so it’s a move that makes sense for both.’
