Harry Kane scored his 23rd Champions League goal on Tuesday evening – equaling Chelsea legend Frank Lampard’s tally in the competition.
The England captain continued his stunning start at Bayern Munich with a starring role in their 3-1 at Galatasaray.
With the score at 1-1 with 20 minutes to go, Jamal Musiala teed up Kane to finish from close range and soon after the striker returned the favour to secure all three points.
The win puts Bayern firmly at the top of Champions League Group A, ahead of Galatasaray, Manchester United and Copenhagen.
On a personal note for Kane, it’s a goal that puts the 30-year-old level with Lampard for UCL goals, reaching the 23 goal mark in just 35 appearances, while the Chelsea legend made a whopping 105 appearances in his long career.
And given his current form – 11 goals in 12 games – and Bayern’s track record in Europe, it may not be too long before he becomes the top scoring Englishman in UCL history.
That honour belongs to Wayne Rooney with 30 goals, with Raheem Sterling (27) and Paul Scholes (24) the only other men ahead of the former Tottenham star.
Breaking records wasn’t on Kane’s mind however, with the striker just happy to win what was a tough and close encounter in Turkey,
‘It’s a really important win. This is a really tough place to come,’ he told Prime Video.
‘A tough stadium with the fans pushing them on. It made things difficult for us, especially in the first half.

In the second half we were a bit more calm, better on the ball and took our chances. To have nine points after three games is really important.
‘It’s my first time in this stadium and I’m just about getting my hearing back now. Amazing, credit to the Galatasaray fans and obviously our away fans as well.
‘This is what football’s all about, doing it in tough atmospheres on a big occasion. Thankfully we were able to come through it today.’
