Harrison Ford actually cut part of his finger off minutes into first job
Harrison Ford is one of the biggest action legends in Hollywood, but he found himself needing medical attention just minutes into starting his first job.
He has been a staple of our screens for decades, thanks to roles in the Indiana Jones franchise, as well as Han Solo in Star Wars.
Unpacking the beginning of his career during a new interview, the 82-year-old revealed that he actually started out as a chef, before cutting ‘part of his finger off’ within moments.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live yesterday, the host queried if he had ever worked as a cook before catapulting to superstardom.
‘For relatively short periods of time, until they found out about me and fired me,’ he quipped.
‘My first job was I cooked at a hospital. I don’t know what I told them, but they gave me a knife and a bunch of carrots, and I cut this part of my finger off within minutes.’
After showing Jimmy the top of his left index finger, he laughed the ordeal off, adding: ‘But the sew-your-finger-back-on department was right down the hall, and right after that was where they fire you for lying…’
Harrison has had a very busy few years, after balancing stints in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny with a main role in both 1923 and Shrinking – with the second season of the Apple TV+ series premiering next week.
As well as this, he will be popping up in the upcoming Captain America film, Brave New World, which is slated to be released next year.
The Fugitive actor is set to play politician Thaddeus Ross in the superhero flick, alongside Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas and Liv Tyler.
Despite commanding a huge career spanning several years, He remained refreshingly candid when questioned about what convinced him to agree to the Marvel project.
‘Not caring,’ he simply told Variety. ‘What did it take? It took not caring. It took being an idiot for money, which I’ve done before.’
Insisting that he wasn’t trying to be rude, Harrison continued: ‘I don’t mean to disparage it.
‘I’m just saying you have to do certain things that normally your mother would not want you to do – or your acting coach if you had one.
‘But it’s fun, and I enjoyed it. I had a great time, and I’m delighted at the response that we got with the trailer.’
