GTA 6 looks amazing, but you’ll have to wait (Picture: Rockstar Games)
If you’re planning a trip to Vice City in GTA 6, here’s everything you need to know about world’s most anticipated video game.
The first trailer for the new Grand Theft Auto game just about broke the internet and reached 50 million views on YouTube overnight, beating the GTA 5 trailer’s lifetime total in less than two days.
It’s fair to say that GTA 6 is the most highly anticipated game ever, and as such there are a lot of important questions to answer.
Read on to find out when GTA 6 is coming out, who the protagonists are, and where you can play it.
When is GTA 6 coming out?
The GTA 6 trailer revealed many things, including the fact that it will be released in 2025. However, it didn’t say exactly when.
There were hopes that it would come out in 2024, but rumours just before the trailer debuted suggested that the game had been delayed only recently and was originally aiming for next year.
Rockstar commonly releases new game in either May or October, and generally no other time of the year. There’s no real way to guess which it will be for GTA 6 but the most important point is that Rockstar probably don’t know themselves yet. They’re in no hurry, there’s no point rushing it, so it’ll be out when it’s finished.

What formats will GTA 6 be on?
GTA publisher Take-Two confirmed that GTA 6 will launch on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 in 2025. It’s not being developed for Xbox One or PlayStation 4.
The publisher didn’t mention PC at all, and it’s likely a PC version won’t be available for some time after the initial release of the game.
This is what they did with GTA 5 too, when the game only came to PC a year and a half later. Red Dead Redemption 2 took a year so, if you’re lucky, maybe GTA 6 will only take six months to arrive.
What is the story in GTA 6?
After fans were done combing the trailer for information, many were ready to start guessing at the basic framework of the story.
What we know is that GTA 6 has two protagonists, Lucia and Jason, in a Bonnie and Clyde-style partnership (the trailer never actually mentions Jason’s name, but that’s what he was called in the leaks, which got Lucia’s name right). They seem romantically involved and in at least a loose criminal partnership.

Lucia, the first-ever female protagonist in the GTA series, is at one point in prison, and is seen with an ankle monitor in the trailer art. Not much is known about Jason, but some speculate that he’s an undercover cop, although the evidence for that so far is circumstantial.
The trailer shows them robbing a shop with guns, and there’s an agreement between the two to trust each other at the end of the trailer. In true GTA fashion, it wouldn’t be surprising if their crimes spiralled out of control and into much heavier stuff, so we’ll see whether that promise is kept.
How much will GTA 6 cost?
Today many AAA games go for a ceiling price of £69.99, and it’s very unlikely GTA 6 will cost less than that. Prices for the biggest games could also change in two year’s time, so it’s tricky to predict how much it’ll set you back.
There are rumours of Take-Two planning to charge $100 or even $150 for the game, but the source for this is highly dubious and almost certainly made up.
It is likely that GTA 6 will have various limited editions, as GTA 5 launched with a Special Edition and a Collector’s Edition, and they’ll probably be more expensive – but there’s nothing unusual about that.

What is the GTA 6 trailer song?
The song playing throughout the trailer is Love is a Long Road by ’70s rocker Tom Petty. It’s not necessarily his most famous song but the lyrics are suspected to be very appropriate to the relationship between Lucia and Jason.
In fact, there’s some evidence that the song was picked a long time ago, as there’s a sticker on the door of the convivence store, that the pair rob, that seems to be a reference to Petty – which implies a considerable amount of forward planning for the song choice.
This in turn has sparked various theories about Jason’s backstory and his potentially complicated relationship with Lucia.

What did the GTA 6 trailer reveal?
The GTA 6 trailer revealed that we’re going to Vice City in the state of Leonida – in other words, the GTA universe’s version of Miami and Florida. Many of the landmarks will be the same but since the last Vice City was set in the 1980s Rockstar has plenty of excuses to change the layout however they want.
Certain scenes in the trailer suggest that the overall map will be very big, with previous rumours suggesting there’ll be a large wilderness area and several other smaller towns.
A comparison also show the 21 years of graphical improvement Rockstar has made since the last time we were in Vice City.
There were many Easter eggs found in the trailer too, such as the Ocean View hotel from previous GTA games based in Vice City, Rockstar’s favourite beer, and several nods to real-life events caught on camera and posted on social media, like Miami Joker and Hammer Karen.
Lots of animals are seen too, from birds to alligators, dogs, and chameleons, with the implication you can be attacked by wildlife but also keep pets.
