A new list reveals which branded food products have been hit the worst by price hikes.
Consumer brand Which? has analysed prices of nearly 26,000 branded food and drink products at eight supermarkets: Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.
The analysis, from July this year, found that a range of everyday items from Mr Kipling cake bars to Pilgrim’s Choice cheese and Yeo Valley flavoured yoghurts had seen prices rise significantly.
In the case of Mr Kipling Chocolate Slices, the uplift in cost at Tesco was 129%, from £1.16 a pack in 2022, now £2.66 in 2023.
Breakfast staple Quaker Jumbo Rolled Oats, also at Tesco, rose by 68.6%, from £1.75 to £2.95.

Over at Morrisons, Which? found that a 900ml carton of Tropicana Smooth Orange Juice went from £1.84 to £3.05 year-on-year, which is a difference of 65.8%.

The analysis comes amid news that the cost of living crisis is ‘ending’ – but that food prices seem set to remain high.
The Bank of England’s chief economist Huw Pill has warned that a fall in UK food prices is ‘something we may not be seeing for a while yet, if in the future at all’.
Sue Davies, Head of Food Policy at Which?, has called upon supermarkets to keep prices low for consumers.
She said: ‘With food prices expected to remain high for the rest of the year, Which? is calling on supermarkets to ensure expensive convenience stores are stocked with a range of budget items that support a healthy diet…

‘And setting key tests that they can work towards to show they are willing to make a meaningful difference for their customers most in need.’
Which? also finds out which of the eight aforementioned supermarkets offers the cheapest food shop each month.
For August 2023, Aldi offered the cheapest basket of 38 everyday groceries, followed by Lidl, Asda and Tesco.
The analysis of a bigger trolly containing 135 popular items excludes Aldi and Lidl, but found that Morrisons was the cheapest, closely followed by Asda and Tesco for August 2023.
