What will 2021’s Grammy Awards look like?

What will 2021’s Grammy Awards look like?

This year’s Grammy Awards – like every award show so far – will be a little different. It’s set to be the first remote Grammys ceremony, packed with international talent and starting a little earlier than usual.

The show will look different, swapping out the Staples Center stage for outdoor sets at the Los Angeles Convention Center, as well as remotely from other places. We’ll see newcomers to the Grammys stage, including BTS and Silk Sonic, and welcome back artists such as Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.

    When are the Grammys?

The hybrid show airs live at 8 ET/5 PT on Sunday, March 14 on CBS. The awards were initially slated for Jan. 31 at LA’s Staples Center but were postponed due to COVID-19 concerns. The show will now be held at the smaller Los Angeles Convention Center, as well as remotely from other places.

The start time is 1 am GMT on 15th March in the UK.

How can I watch the Grammys?

In the UK, the Grammys red carpet is available on Sky, Virgin Media, TalkTalkTV and Plusnet. There’s no way to watch the ceremony itself in the UK, though in the US the whole thing will air on CBS.

What will 2021’s Grammy Awards look like?
Beyonce leads the pack with 9 nominations

    Who’s performing?

The line-up includes: Taylor Swift, BTS, Haim, Cardi B, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish will all perform, as will Bad Bunny, Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch. Further down the bill, there will be appearances from Black Pumas, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Mickey Guyton, Brittany Howard, Miranda Lambert, Lil Baby, Chris Martin, John Mayer and Maren Morris.

Expect a combination of live and remote performances throughout the night. The Recording Academy (the organising body behind the awards) explains it cryptically:

“Artists will be coming together, while still safely apart, to play music for each other as a community.”

In practice, that means artists will be performing onsite, outdoors, on multiple stages and able to watch each other’s sets, but all socially distanced.

    Who’s presenting the awards?

Presenters for the individual awards haven’t been announced, but Trevor Noah is hosting the ceremony itself for the first time. Noah has expressed his hope that the ceremony will feel like a break in the pandemic and lockdowns, telling Billboard that “it won’t have that depressing ‘Oh, man, look at all of us stuck at home’ [feel]. I’m so tired of that imagery, I’m not going to lie to you, it’s everywhere. Some TV shows have adopted it for their dramas or whatever. If it’s not current affairs, I’m like, ‘Take me away on whatever flight of fantasy you can.’ Luckily, the Grammys can.”

    Who’s nominated?

Leading the pack is Beyoncé, who has nine nominations including Record Of The Year, while Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Roddy Ricch each have six and Brittany Howard has five.
