Glen Johnson has issued a warning to Mykhailo Mudryk after his early struggles at Chelsea.
Chelsea spent almost £90m to sign Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk in January and handed the Ukraine international a staggering eight-and-a-half-year contract.
While Mudryk had impressed for Shakhtar and attracted interest from Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Arsenal, he has so far underwhelmed at Stamford Bridge and is yet to score in 17 appearances in all competitions.
Johnson insists Mudryk could yet develop into a ‘very dangerous’ player for Chelsea but says the 23-year-old will not be given ‘much more time’ to prove his worth, especially with Mauricio Pochettino taking over next month.
Asked to assess Mudryk’s first six months at Chelsea, Johnson told Betfred: ‘Overall, I’ve been unimpressed. However, sometimes it takes certain players more time to adapt than others.
‘I still believe that Mykhailo has a lot to give and he looks like he’s going to threaten a lot, but he just doesn’t do a lot.
‘Once he gets used to the Premier League and what the team needs him to do, then he’s certainly got the attributes to be very dangerous.

‘I don’t believe he will be given much more time to impress at Chelsea, so he needs to hit the ground running when the new season begins in August.’
Mudryk was certainly not the only Chelsea player to struggle last season as the Blues slumped to a 12th-place finish in the Premier League.
Thomas Tuchel was in charge at the start of the campaign but the German – as well as his replacement Graham Potter – were both sacked by Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly.
The Blues have turned to former Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham and Southampton boss Pochettino to turn the club’s fortunes around, with the Argentine set to begin the role in July.
