A nine-year-old girl is fighting for her life in hospital after she was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing this morning.
The child was critically injured when she was struck by a black Vauxhall Corsa in Halifax shortly after 11am.
Emergency services rushed to the scene in King Cross Street after a PCSO on patrol came across the incident.
She had reportedly been crossing the road with an adult when the collision happened.
Paramedics took the girl to hospital for emergency treatment in a critical condition.
The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa, a 53-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Police have cordoned off the scene and are carrying out enquiries.
Officers are also urging anyone with any vital information to come forward.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: ‘Police are appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision in Halifax in which a child pedestrian was critically injured.
‘At 11.09am today, a PCSO on patrol came across the incident in King Cross Street.
‘Anyone who witnessed the collision or the movements of the car in the time leading up to the collision, particularly anyone with relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact roads policing officers via 101 quoting log 715 of July 8 or reference 132302379650 or online at http://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat.’
