German birth rate booms after Covid lockdown

The Times says Germany’s birth rate has risen abruptly to its highest level for March since 1998, defying predictions of a pandemic-induced “baby bust”.

The country joined half a dozen other European states in recording a significant increase in births nine months after the Continent’s first round of lockdowns was lifted.
