George Russell responds to Lewis Hamilton’s apology after Qatar Grand Prix crash
The Metro says George Russell has accepted Lewis Hamilton’s apology after the veteran driver took the blame for their collision at the start of the Qatar Grand Prix on Sunday.
The seven-time champion, starting on soft-compound tyres, tried to go round the outside of both Russell and Max Verstappen – who were on mediums – but tagged his Mercedes team-mate’s left front wheel and both cars spun off the track.
Russell was able to continue, going from last at the end of the first lap to finish fourth, but Hamilton’s race was over after just a few seconds.
The 38-year-old was initially rather put out with Russell, saying over the team radio, ‘I got taken out by my own team-mate’, but he mellowed after the dust had settled and apologised to his team-mate on social media.
