GB News boss ‘appalled’ by Laurence Fox comments
The boss of GB News has said Laurence Fox’s comments about a female journalist were “way past the limits of acceptance” and should have been challenged by the host Dan Wootton.
Angelos Frangopoulos told the BBC he was “appalled” by the remarks.
Fox and Wootton have been suspended and GB News is now being investigated after Ofcom received thousands of complaints.
What did Laurence Fox say?
When discussing an earlier interview on PoliticsLive featuring political journalist Ava Evans, Laurence Fox made vile comments about Evans’ appearance because he didn’t agree with her thoughts on whether there should be a mental health minister for men.
Fox said:
“We’re past the watershed so I can say this… show me a single, self-respecting man that would like to climb into bed with that woman… ever… ever.
“That little woman has been fed… spoon-fed oppression day after day after day, starting with the lie about the gender pay gap.
“She’s sat there, and I’m going like, if I met you at a bar and that was like sentence three, chances of me just walking away are just huge.
“We need powerful, strong, amazing women who make great points for themselves. We don’t need these feminist 4.0. They’re pathetic and embarrassing.
“Who’d want to shag that?”
GB News has suspended Laurence Fox and host Dan Wootton and Wootton has been let go of his contract with the Daily Mail.
Boss Frangopoulos told Radio 4’s Today programme that Laurence’s comments “are not in keeping with the values of us as a business and as a media company.
“And obviously, we took action immediately.”
He added that GB News had launched its own investigation and expects it to “be completed very soon.”
