Gasly expected Q1 exit in F1 British GP qualifying before Q3 progression

Gasly Surprises with Q3 Spot Despite Alpine Struggles

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly expressed his amazement at qualifying for Q3 at the British Grand Prix, a feat he deemed “incredible” given the team’s recent performance struggles. Entering the weekend at Silverstone, Alpine found itself lagging behind rivals in the midfield, leaving many to question whether Gasly could secure a strong grid position.

Q1 Exit Looms Before Q3 Progression

Initially, Gasly’s prospects looked grim as he battled with the car’s performance throughout practice sessions. “We thought we’d be knocked out in Q1 because it’s been extremely difficult,” Gasly admitted. However, he turned it around with a commendable lap that secured his place in Q2 from P15.

    Astonishing Turnaround

After a shaky start to the weekend, Gasly’s performance in Q2 saw him elevate to P10 on the grid—a remarkable achievement considering the car’s lack of upgrades compared to competitors like Aston Martin and Sauber. “That lap in Q2, I was very happy with it. Every corner was at the edge, and it came together perfectly,” he reflected.

    Challenges Ahead

Despite the boost, Gasly knows that maintaining his position during the race will be a challenge. “Silverstone is not going to be our favourite track of the year,” he cautioned, anticipating a tough race on Sunday where he will need to outmaneuver his rivals. “I’ll be looking in my mirrors and finding creative ways to fight those around me.”

    Colapinto’s Struggles

Meanwhile, Gasly’s teammate Franco Colapinto faced disappointment, finishing last in Q1 after a spin resulted in contact with the wall. The team has opted to allow him to start from the pit lane, making necessary adjustments to his car. “Not a good qualifying from my side,” Colapinto said, noting that improvements were still needed to bridge the gap with Gasly’s performance.

    Looking Forward

As the drivers gear up for Sunday’s race, Gasly’s unexpected Q3 entry provides a glimmer of hope for a team currently languishing at the bottom of the constructors’ table. While confidence may be building, both drivers remain aware of the uphill battle they face at Silverstone.

Stay tuned for what promises to be an action-packed race as Alpine seeks to climb out of the mid-table trenches and find its footing in the final stages of the season.
