Frank Warren has suggested Tyson Fury might consider retiring – again – after talks over an undisputed heavyweight showdown with Oleksandr Usyk collapsed.
All parties have contested who was at fault for the breakdown in negotiations, with talks over a unification showdown at Wembley Stadium on April 29 having been progressing well until an issue over the rematch clause arose.
Usyk, who had accepted Fury’s demand of a 70/30 purse split, demanded the same in his favour in any rematch should he win the first contest – which Fury is believe to have rejected.
The Gypsy King’s promoter, Frank Warren, insists it was Usyk’s camp that walked away from talks and has now thrown up the possibility of Fury once again hanging up his gloves.
Asked what happens next for Fury, Warren told Seconds Out: ‘Tyson is a bit peed off, because obviously he’s been in training constantly, he’s got his trainer in.
‘It’s not a conversation, everything is too raw at the moment. We’ll work it out.
‘Listen, he may retire! I don’t know what he wants to do. He will do whatever he wants to do.

‘Listen, he’s the guy getting in the ring. Everyone sitting outside making their comments. I find it quite insulting that Tyson Fury, who went to Germany and won his fight, done all the things Usyk has done, beat the best guy of his generation, went to America and beat the hardest punching guy out there, tried to make the fight with Anthony Joshua.’
Fury first claimed he had retired in April of last year after knocking out Dillian Whyte at Wembley, though he returned to fight Derek Chisora in December.
On why negotiations with Usyk’s camp broke down, Warren continued: ‘I think the genuine issue was, a lot of people – including myself by the way – didn’t think Tyson would be ready by April 29. A lot of people. Even myself, I thought he needed more time.

‘So if you recall, they said, “We’ll take the 70/30 but it’s got to take place on April 29 otherwise we renegotiate, it’s 50/50.” Tyson came back and said he’d do that.
‘And then after that it went cool, because I genuinely don’t think they thought he would be ready.
‘And I think in their minds – and I understand this – they feel that if it goes to Saudi they’ll make more money, and they will do, but Saudi can’t put the fight on until December. And there’s no way we can wait until December for this to happen.’
He added: ‘Forget this rematch stuff. The four belts are on the line, the winner gets it and the loser that’s the end of it.’
