Why has France been singled out for extra summer holiday Covid restrictions?
The Times says France has been placed in a new “amber plus” category — halfway between amber and red — under the government’s traffic light system for travel. All those returning from there to the UK, even if doubly vaccinated, will continue to have to quarantine at home for ten days, taking tests on (or before) the second day and on (or after) the eight day (with the possibility to release after five days).
This includes people who have merely passed through France, such as those who have driven to a cross-Channel ferry or to the Eurotunnel near Calais. But Eurostar said those travelling on its trains to London from Amsterdam and Brussels, which stop in the French city of Lille, would not be affected by the change.
