Jamie Treays played his biggest headline show at Finsbury Park last night and it was a throwback of nostalgia-driven songs that took us straight back to the noughties.
The 37-year-old indie godfather from south London hailed it as the ‘biggest moment of his life’ as he topped the bill following on from shouty Bristol rockers Idles and Brit-nominated rapper Kojey Radical.
Over the years Jamie T has played everywhere from tiny London boozers to nailing a packed John Peel stage at Glastonbury, and last night he saved his best for the biggest gig of his career.
Metro.co.uk were treated to the first of the weekend of big shows in north London, with Pulp playing on Saturday night and Cigarettes After Sex joined by Matt Healy and The 1975 on Sunday.

His casual cap, Oxford shirt, and adidas shorts
The gorblimey singer took to the stage for the self-proclaimed biggest gig of his career in a classic dressed-down look.

He donned a casual cap, an Oxford shirt and Adidas shorts – oozing coolness – but it did look a bit like he had just walked out of the crowd and grabbed a guitar on his way up to the stage.
A proposal… and she said yes
Not something you see that often in Finsbury Park – and even rarer at Jamie T gigs I would imagine, but Craig was the happiest man out of the strong 45,000 people crowd, as he got the answer he wanted.
As Jamie was closing the show he helped out by taking part in a marriage proposal – and giving the couple a shout-out on stage.
The photographers struggled to find the happy couple in the crowd and to catch the moment on the big screens – but nonetheless it was another happy moment after a day filled with them.

His vintage AFC Wimbledon shirt
Jamie T isn’t afraid of telling you where his roots come from. He is proud to be a south Londoner, born in Wimbledon with a lifetime on the Northern Line – as he famously sang.
He made that clear when after closing on ‘If You Got the Money’ he briefly walked off stage and came back on to the song we all knew he would.
It has been a common walkout tune for Mr T, and epitomises his career of late,as he confirmed he is certainly ‘Back in the Game’.
But it wasn’t his first encore song that caught our eye – as he came back out wearing a white vintage AFC Wimbledon shirt – complete with the classic Elonex sponsor.
The white shirt wasn’t on for long but you could see the look of pride on his face, playing a headline London show – and despite it being on the other side of the Thames – he still wanted to get his southern roots in.
Sheila goes out with her mate Stella
His debut single that you are guaranteed to have heard at every indie disco night since 2007. His full London merch had the lyrics ‘screams calling London’ which come from this song.
It really didn’t disappoint with the crowd bopping away and barking back the lyrics to Jamie on stage.
It has always been a hit with both loyal troubadours and those who have never heard any of his other work and it is the one song of his that if you’ve never heard of him before, you will know about Sheila who goes out with her mate Stella.

Closing the show with Zombie-ie-ie-ie – and the whole crowd still having it stuck in their heads hours later
He had said before the Finsbury Park show that it was going to be a family affair for him – and he continued the theme throughout.
Wrapping up the gig Jamie thanked his band who have been with him through thick and thin, and led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to his drummer Alex – before handing him some birthday cake.
The noughties indie hero closed with ‘Zombie’ and it is one of those songs that will just get stuck in your head for days.
A packed Finsbury Park sang chorus after chorus of ‘Zombie-ie-ie-ie, Zombie-ie-ie-ie, Zombie-ie-ie-ie’ as fireworks closed the night.
