Fiorentina’s chief executive says the club has not received any approach for Sofyan Amrabat amid reported interest from Manchester United.
The 26-year-old is heading into the final year of his contract with the Serie A club, and reports in Italy on Monday suggested the Red Devils have been in contact with the midfielder.
Giuseppe Barone says there has been no contact at all between the two clubs, but did not rule out accepting a bid for the Moroccan if an offer did come in.
‘We have not received any bid or proposal for him at all,’ Barone told reporters.
‘He’s a Fiorentina player now. If an offer comes, we will consider it.’
Amrabat made 29 Serie A appearances last season for Fiorentina and 15 more in the Europa Conference League as La Viola made it all the way to the final, losing out to West Ham.
The former Feyenoord and Club Brugge midfielder was a hit at the World Cup over the winter as Morocco enjoyed a surprise run to the semi-finals before losing out to France.
Amrabat’s brother Nordin confirmed that Manchester United made a move for Sofyan in January when they wanted to bring him in on loan.
The Red Devils were looking for a replacement for the injured Christian Eriksen, eventually securing a move for Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich, but not before trying to get the Moroccan.
‘I can name three clubs who were concrete in the last two or three days of the transfer window,’ Nordin told Voetbal Primeur. ‘Manchester United wanted a loan with an option to buy deal, Fiorentina rejected.’
Asked about a potential future in the Premier League, Sofyan said ahead of the Europa Conference League final: ‘Of course, the Premier League is a fantastic league, one of the strongest in the world. It would be nice to play there one day, but it’s not that I want only to go to England, because Spain is nice, Serie A is a nice league.
‘Football has changed a lot, it’s more physical, you have more to be an athlete, the tempo and intensity is higher. Of course, in England the intensity is very high, so I think it could suit me.’
