David Tennant is returning to Doctor Who for the BBC show’s 60th anniversary, and he’s been supported by his loving family.
The 52-year-old will star in three specials, and will once again be playing the 10th incarnation of the beloved character.
His former co-star Catherine Tate will also be back to accompany him as Donna Noble on tardis adventures.
But when he’s not playing the iconic time traveller, he is known as dad and husband. Let’s meet his family…
Who is David Tennant’s wife?

David is married to Doctor Who co-star Georgia Tennant. The 38-year-old producer actually met David on set in 2008 while appearing on Doctor Who in the role of the Doctor’s daughter, Jenny.
Georgia’s life is intrinsically linked to the BBC series, as she’s also the daughter of fifth doctor Peter Davidson.
‘Doctor Who has always been there, embedded deep in the fabric of my existence and it seems it always will be,’ Georgia wrote on Instagram earlier this week.
‘During childhood, it entertained me with weekends spent in convention halls with my dad. As I grew up it gave me a career and then in an unlikely timey wimey series of events gave me a family and now my children will tell a similar (but even less likely) story.
‘It’s a joy to be part of the Who family in every sense of that.‘

When previously speaking on That Gaby Roslin Podcast Georgia, 38, admitted she was the ‘driving force’ of the relationship at the start.
‘I very much forced it into happening, didn’t I? I was very much the driving force. Had I not worked quite so hard, it might not have happened,’ she shared.
David gave his version of events: ‘That makes it sound like I was resistant, which was not what happened. I thought we were an unlikely life partnership, I suppose. There is a bit of an age gap.

‘Because Doctor Who had run through my life like a stick of rock, to end up marrying the daughter of one of the Doctors, it all felt a bit stupid… that wasn’t really likely to happen. So there were a lot of things against it.’
He then showed his romantic side: ‘There’s a great Tim Minchin song, “If I didn’t have you someone else would probably do”… but I certainly feel like I lucked out.’
They married in December 2011, and Georgia marked their 10-year anniversary with an unseen wedding snap and the caption: ‘The happiest day followed by the happiest life. Thanks DT.’
Who are David Tennant’s children?
David and Georgia have five children – Olive, 12, Wilfred, ten, Doris, eight, Birdie, four, and Georgia’s eldest child Ty, who the Good Omens actor adopted. The 21-year-old is following in his parents’ footsteps and has acted in War of the Worlds, and House of the Dragon.
The couple take their children’s privacy incredibly seriously but in celebration of David returning to Doctor Who, the excited mum shared a family snap.
David beamed from ear to ear as he held his youngest and hugged his family, although their faces were covered.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted that one of their children, believed to be Wilfred, was rocking a top which said: ‘Let’s get one thing straight, I’m not.’
David is frequently seen supporting the LGBTQ+ community in numerous ways, including attending the Rolling Stone UK Awards on Thursday, November 23, wearing a Tardis trans pin.
What is David Tennant’s real name?
It’s not just Georgia who has changed her surname to Tennant, it wasn’t David’s original moniker either.
His birth name was David McDonald, but he was forced to change it as another person had already registered with it at the UK actors’ union Equity.

‘David Tennant is now my real name,’ he previously explained at the New York Comic Con.
However, he even encountered problems with his new name: ‘I came to do some work in America and the Screen Actors Guild said “You can’t have that name because we have got a David Tennant”.’
He continued: ‘I was already making Doctor Who by then so it would have been weird to change my name again.
‘Then it turned out that if it was your legal name then you don’t have to change it so I had to make it my legal name.
‘It was just at the time when I was adopting my son and we were about to have my daughter and we were about to get married – all at the same time so we all changed our name all at once. The four of us became Tennants in a two-week period.’
Doctor Who will return today at 6:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
