The captain of a Scottish ferry has welcomed its ‘youngest ever passenger’ after a baby was born onboard.
The baby girl was born onboard the MV Argyle as it crossed from Rothesay to Wemyss Bay on Wednesday morning.
Her mum was travelling from the Isle of Bute to Ayrshire to give birth, but the infant arrived before she could complete her journey.
It is understood the baby was born in an ambulance on the car deck of the ferry, the Daily Record reports.
Captain Lee McDowell said: ‘We are delighted at thenews of a very special delivery on board MV Argyle in Wemyss Bay this morning – a baby girl.
‘Our warmest wishes and congratulations to the parents, and to our youngest-ever passenger.’
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed: ‘We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and transferred the patient and newborn baby to hospital.’
In Atlanta, US, a baby was born in a McDonalds toilet after the the expectant mum ran in to use the bathroom on the way to the hospital.

Alandria Worthy ran in to the restaurant in November last year, but her waters broke as she did do.
The franchise’s manager went to check on the new mother and saw what was happening.
‘She was on this toilet laying back, screaming,’ manager Tunisia Woodward told 11 Alive News.
The baby was named Nandi Ariyah Moremi Phillips, but the McDonalds staff thought of a fitting nickname: ‘Little Nugget.’
