Fears over London festival this weekend as site turns into ‘mud bath’

Fears over London festival this weekend as site turns into ‘mud bath’

Ticket holders of a London festival are slightly nervous after the venue turned into a ‘mud bath’ over the weekend.

Mighty Hoopla is set to attract 30,000 people to Brockwell Park on Saturday and Sunday.

The line-up includes acts like Nelly Furtado, B*witched, Jessie Ware, Rita Ora and Bambie Thug.

However, attendees are on edge and ‘manifesting sunshine’ after seeing the weather forecast as well as photos of the condition of the park just a few days ago.

Earlier this week snaps taken at the City Splash Festival showed punters walking around in muddy conditions, with most shoes and outfits looking worse for wear.

‘Oh, best get planning new outfits then since I didn’t even think of this happening,’ Adam posted on X ahead of Mighty Hoopla.

‘If you’re going to hoopla this weekend, make sure to order your wellies,’ Lexi shared.

‘I bet you 5 British pounds this will be carnage and a disaster.’ Michael predicted.

James added: ‘After years of not getting round to getting a ticket & having FOMO – I am finally going to Mighty Hoopla this year (on Sunday). Can’t wait, but the weather better damn well behave itself.’

However, many others thought the panic was hilarious.

‘For a country known to be rainy… y’all really whinging a little too much over this,’ Tan joked.

‘Have never seen this much flap and panic over mud. Has nobody been to a festival???’ Lewis questioned.

‘The Hoopla tweets are killing me. Cannae wait to be slippin and slidin in the mud, wearing a feather boar and screaming Untouched,’ Roisin added.

Despite the concerns, festival organisers have confirmed everything is set to go ahead as planned.

‘After heavy rainfall during another festival on Monday, the site at Brockwell Park has become muddy and wet,’ the statement released on social media began.

‘It has taken us some time to assess with our team, suppliers and our colleagues at Lambeth Council, and we now have a solid plan that protects not only the park but everyone attending, performing and working at Mighty Hoopla 2024.

‘Non-stop activity has begun and we are now preparing the site ahead of the weekend including laying 20,000 square metres of additional ground cover in key areas such as stages, toilets, bars, entrances, exits and busy walkways.’

They then advised people to ‘be sensible’ with their footwear before adding: ‘We are doing everything to ensure Mighty Hoopla 2024 is our greatest show to date and we won’t let you down.’

However, in a statement the following day, on Wednesday, Lambeth Council said a ‘final decision’ on whether the festival will still happen this weekend was ‘still to be made’.

Efforts to make the park safe and prevent further damage were ‘subject to ongoing reviews and risk assessment’, the council added, as reported by My London.

Fans relieved as Mighty Hoopla festival with huge line-up confirmed to be going ahead after cancellation fears
