Tyrese Gibson has detailed the terrifying moment he almost lost his life in a freak car fire.
The Fast and Furious actor appeared shaken as he opened up about his ordeal, which unfolded as he went to start a new film.
In a new Instagram video, the 44-year-old explained that his childhood friend, Kenyatta, was driving him to the set in his sprinter van when they stopped to get gas.
‘We put gas in the tank, we got back on that same freeway – a two-lane highway,’ he told viewers. ‘At the back of the sprinter van is all gas. That’s where the gas tanks are.
‘I was in the back by myself. Limousine tint [on the car windows so you] can’t see out, can’t see in. Especially at night.’
Tyrese was in the back by himself as they returned to the freeway, when the driver noticed an issue, explaining that his ‘pedal was on the metal’ but the car was barely moving.
Not wanting to take a risk, the pair pulled up on a grass patch on the side of the road to examine the problem, and realized the vehicle had been leaking fuel.
‘Once the sprinter van stopped, we got out and we looked to the left,’ the Transformer star continued. ‘The asphalt of the freeway – we were on top of the grass – the entire back of the sprinter van and the grass area was completely on fire.
‘Literally a trail of gas was on fire directly behind the sprinter van
‘The entire bottom of the sprinter van was on fire. There was a gas leak under the sprinter van and it was on top of the grass area.’
Comparing the blaze to a scene from Back to the Future, Tyrese warned his pal to stay back as the van was ‘going to explode’.
They immediately called 911, urging the emergency services to get to the scene immediately before anyone was hurt.
‘Here’s where God stepped in – I can take credit for a lot of things, we cannot take credit for God’s work,’ he said, before getting emotional.
‘If we had stayed on that freeway for 30 seconds, a minute max, the wind hitting the fire directly under the sprinter van would’ve made the fire bigger and bigger.
‘I had no clue, the only way we got out of this van is the lord Jesus Christ.
‘If this had went in any other direction…’
