Daily Express – Farage: Not a word from our PM on boats crisis!

    August 29, 2024

Nigel Farage has criticised the prime minister after “not a word” was said by Sir Keir Starmer about the more than 520 people intercepted in the English Channel, the Daily Express writes. The paper says Keir was accused of remaining silent on the problem despite evidence smugglers are approaching the busiest part of the year.

The front page also reports the Prince and Princess of Wales have shared a good luck message ahead of the start of the 2024 Paralympics.

Nigel Farage blasts Starmer over ‘no end’ to open migrant policy as 20,000 cross Channel

Nigel Farage has criticised Sir Keir Starmer for failing to address the latest surge in migrant boat arrivals.

The PM yesterday declared he wanted more joint British-German operations to stop asylum seekers getting to northern France.

But he failed at a press conference in Berlin to mention how more than 520 people were intercepted in the Channel on Tuesday.

Reform UK leader Mr Farage blasted: “526 people crossed the Channel yesterday.

“As I write, 11 boats are mid-Channel, yet not a word from our Prime Minister.”

Sir Keir was accused of remaining silent on the problem despite evidence smugglers are approaching the busiest part of the year.

Official figures are expected to show more than 20,000 people have now been intercepted trying to reach the UK so far in 2024.

Mr Farage added: “Not only are we through 20,000 crossings for the year, we are now ahead of 2023. There is no end to this.

Princess Kate and Prince William interrupt summer break to send very special message

The Prince and Princess of Wales have wished the “very best of luck” to Team GB athletes competing in the Paralympics in Paris.

In a message shared on their social media platforms, they said: “Looking forward to another few weeks of incredible sport! Wishing the very best of luck to our @ParalympicsGB athletes and all those competing at #Paris2024. W & C.”

By signing off “W & C” they confirm that the message was sent directly by them.

The royal couple marked the end of the 2024 Olympic Games with a video message earlier in the month, where they sent their congratulations to Team GB and branded them an “inspiration to us all”.

Several other famous faces also appeared in the film, including Snoop Dogg, David Beckham, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sir Chris Hoy and Dame Kelly Holmes.

    ‘Brexit reset not a reversal’

    Editorial 29 August 2024.

Most of Thursday’s newspapers lead on Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s trip to Europe this week where he aims to ‘reset’ Britain’s relationship with the EU. The prime minister said: “We must turn a corner on Brexit and fix the broken relationships left behind” but made clear it’s not a reversal of Brexit.

There is ongoing coverage of the upcoming Autumn Budget as the papers speculate on tax hikes and who will carry the burden of the £22bn black hole the government is looking to plug.

The back pages cover the latest from the Premier League and Emma Raducanu crashing out of the US Open.
