Daily Mirror – Far-right terror: Too scared to leave our homes

    August 6, 2024

Families targeted by rioters have said they’re too scared to leave home, according to the Daily Mirror. One Asian family targeted by mindless far-right rioters told how they are now too scared to leave their home and are even considering moving. Others told how they were caught up in the rioting that plagued towns such as Southport, Rotherham, Middlesbrough and Tamworth, the paper says.

Elsewhere, the front page reports Keely Hodgkinson declared “I deserved this” after shrugging off the weight of enormous expectations to claim women’s 800m Olympic gold in Paris.

Families targeted by UK riot cowards say: ‘We are scared to leave our home’

The peaceful lives of residents living in mixed communities across the country have been shattered by the raging mobs who brought hatred to our streets.

And last night, one Asian family targeted by mindless far-right cowards told how they are now too scared to leave their home and are even considering moving. Others told how they were caught up in the rioting that plagued towns such as Southport, Rotherham, Middlesbrough and Tamworth.

Migrant hotels have been stormed, mosques attacked, shops looted and even libraries and Citizens Advice centres set ablaze by marauding gangs of fake patriots claiming to be “protecting children” in the wake of the horrific knife deaths of three young girls in Southport, Merseyside. But there have also been heartening stories of residents pulling together to clean up the mess and unite against the racist thugs.

Keely Hodgkinson’s triumphant three-word statement after winning Olympic gold

Keely Hodgkinson declared “I deserved this” after shrugging off the weight of enormous expectations to claim women’s 800m Olympic gold in Paris.

The world silver medallist was the heavy favourite heading into the Games, especially after laying down the fastest time at her signature distance this year last month in London, but in the build-up to her date with destiny consistently favoured the refrain “anything can happen”.

What ultimately did unfold at the Stade de France was a triumph after the 22-year-old found herself in front at the halfway point then dialled it up for a surge in the home stretch to clinch the title in 1:56.72 ahead of Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma, who took silver, and Kenya’s third-place finisher Mary Moraa.

‘UK riots leave Brits too scared to leave home’ - Paper Talk

    Editorial 06 August 2024.

Tuesday’s front pages lead heavily with two stories: the ongoing riots and violence across towns and cities in the UK and Team GB athlete Keely Hodgkison winning Gold at the Olympics.

Several of the papers cover the backlash facing American billionaire Elon Musk for his ‘reckless’ comments claiming that a civil war was ‘inevitable’ in the UK – even though it’s a small minority of far-right thugs and the majority of violence, racism and looting from them has been widely condemned across the political spectrum and the nation. Musk is among several online celebrities that have been accused of whipping up fear.

The back pages continue the Paris 2024 coverage.
