A new Netflix thriller based on a best-selling book by Harlan Coben has already got viewers counting down until the day it hit screens.

Fool Me Once is an upcoming British eight-part television series adapted from the 2016 Coben novel of the same name.

Michelle Keegan, Richard Armitage, Adeel Akhtar and Joanna Lumley are all set to appear.

The story follows Maya Stern (Michelle) who is trying to come to terms with the brutal murder of her husband, Joe (Richard).

But when Maya installs a nanny-cam to keep an eye on her young daughter, she is shocked to see a man she recognises in her house – her husband, who she thought was dead.

As Detective Sergeant Sami Kierce (Adeel Akhtar) leads the homicide investigation into Joe’s death, he is also grappling with secrets of his own.

Meanwhile, Maya’s niece and nephew, Abby and Daniel, are trying to find the truth about their mother’s murder, several months earlier and determine if the two cases are connected.

Joanna plays Judith Burkett, Joe’s protective mother.

The trailer was released on Thursday and people are already marking their diaries to tune in.

‘Can’t wait for this,’ several people commented on social media.

This is the latest adaptation of the American author’s multi-million-dollar contract with the streaming service.

Signed back in 2018, under the deal 14 of Coben’s novels would be developed into original Netflix series or films, with him serving as executive producer on all projects.

The first title released under the deal was The Stranger, based on his novel of the same name, which premiered in January 2020.

Fool Me Once is the second of his novels to be adapted in English by the deal, however other projects including The Woods, The Innocent and Gone for Good were released in Polish, Spanish and French.

When this series was announced the author teased that the story was ‘a pulse-pounder’ and a ‘shocking story of how secrets and deceit have the power to bring people together while simultaneously tearing them apart’.

Fool Me Once is streaming from January 1 on Netflix.
