The family of a suspected gunman in Ireland have launched a GoFundMe to cover his funeral costs after he was stabbed ‘nearly 30 times’.

Tristan Sherry is believed to have opened fire at a steakhouse in west Dublin on Christmas Eve, seriously injuring diner Jason Hennessy Senior.

Marey Hand – thought to be Sherry’s mum – has now launched a fundraiser with hopes of supporting her son’s funeral.

She posted: ‘Hi my name is Marey Hand and my son was murdered on Christmas Eve, his name was Tristan Sherry. We made this to raise money for his funeral cost in this difficult time. We are absolutely heartbroken that this has happened.

‘He was well known for his love of motorcycles and was loved by many. He was an amazing son, brother, father and friend. We can’t believe life has to go on without him.’

A shocking video was uploaded to social media on Christmas Day, appearing to show Sherry lying on the street covered in blood as he is hit over the head with a restaurant chair.

A dad and son who were in the restaurant, and who are known to Irish police, are believed to have been the targets of the gunman who fired several shots.

Both men were rushed from the scene to the Irish capital’s James Connolly Memorial Hospital, but the younger man was soon pronounced dead.

The older man was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds, and it is unconfirmed whether the man who was killed was also shot.

Footage shared on social media showed terrified families running for their lives and hiding under tables as shots rang out through the restaurant.

It was reported the attacker may have used a submachine gun – and both victims were reportedly known to the Gardaí for their involvement with ‘serious and organised crime’.

Gardaí, the Irish national police, have launched a criminal investigation into the shooting, and said they believe it is linked to ongoing drugs and guns feuds.

The scene has been sealed off for a forensic examination and CCTV is being gathered.

Both victims are known to gardaí for their involvement in serious and organised crime.
