With the rise of remote working, it’s never been easier to become a digital nomad. But where do you start? There’s so much choice, it can feel overwhelming.
This is where office supplier Brother UK comes in. They crunched the numbers to find the best remote working hub in the whole of Europe. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, topped the list with an impressive 68/100 score.
Luxembourg City was analysed according to factors like safety, apartment and electricity cost, Wi-Fi speed, and the general cost of living. They then used a weighted rank to determine an overall remote worker score out of 100.
How working from home can make you more productive
While there’s plenty of benefits to working from the office, there’s a reason remote working is the new frontier.
The Office of National Statistics shared data proving that working from home can actually make you more productive.
Here are the highlights:
Output per hour worked was 2.3% above the 2019 average in the last quarter of 2021, when people returned to remote working due to the Omicron variant.
Productivity was 1% higher than the previous three-month period, when less people were working from home.
Output per worker rose by 0.8% between October and December 2021, compared with 2019. Output was also up 1.1% from the previous quarter.
The city has a 6% higher remote working suitability score than Olomouc in Czechia, for instance, and has a Quality of Life score of 192.9. It also ranked well with its Health Care Index (scoring 75), and its Happiness Index, which was a whopping 7.23/10.
In Luxembourg, the wealthiest country in the European Union, people can ride the buses, trains and trams for free.
If you’re someone who likes to play hard as well as work hard, you’ll be pleased to know that Luxembourg City has countless amenities you can explore on your days off.
There’s the Vianden Castle, Le Chemin de la Corniche, the gorgeous Mullerthal Trail, and the Cathédrale Notre-Dame (not to be confused with the Notre Dame in Paris).
According to Expatasian, the cost of living in Luxembourg City is a whole 38% lower than the UK, so if you move there, you’d actually be saving money. According to Skyscanner, flights for Luxembourg can cost as little as £22, depending on the time of year you want to head there.
