The New WAR over streaming rights
In a seismic move for European football, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham will join AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid.
SKY Sports, BBC Sports and BT Sports are among the broadcasters outraged by the ESL. Broadcasters and their presenters have condemned the plans suggesting this move is a betrayal to football.
They know they will have to compete with more media groups over streaming rights and may be priced out – they do the same in the UK.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also weighed in, saying the move would be “very damaging for football and we support football authorities in taking action.”

Fans will have to travel more to watch more games (is that really a problem) or they can watch it online in a new streaming service.
This is not about the big 6 leaving the premier league, this is about control over finances
The big 6 & the ESL clubs are global brands and UEFA is a monopoly that wants to keep control.
The Big 6 & ESL want more control
German and French associations have not yet joined the alliance.
UEFA wants to stay in control of the money pot that generates billions annually in the champions league.
FIFA and UEFA will ban the players involved in all other competitions, despite the proposed league starting in the summer months.
A massive PR campaign has been launched to get supporters and fans of these clubs to reject the deal and disown their clubs.
But what are they really proposing?
A new league that does not abandon any domestic competitions but simply establishes a new champions league competition.
But let’s evaluate the facts.
What did FIFA and UEFA contribute to British football during the pandemic?
Both Uefa and FIFA are deeply corrupted organisations – The QATAR World cup and the allegations against many of the hierarchy have unveiled the problems with the organisation.
If the ESL members allowed UEFA to govern the competition in the same way it does the champions league – would they object? No.
How many of the other clubs discounted from the new ESL have ever played in the champions league?
Leicester City is the only one who has qualified in the decade, before that it was Leeds, Norwich and Newcastle in the 90’s
All these clubs would still have the opportunity.
There will also be five changing clubs that qualify through their performance in the league.
Would Sky sports or BT sports object to this if they were offered the rights to broadcast the league?
In principle, nothing will change for the premier league or the teams involved unless Uefa banned the clubs
This is all about money Uefa wants to keep control of it and the ESL clubs want to have more of it
Who will win?
For prize money and solidarity payments to non-participating clubs, the twelve clubs should have the incredible sum of 3.5 billion euros at their disposal.

Twelve teams have so far confirmed they will be part of a new European Super League competition.
The European Super League teams are:
The “founding clubs” are AC Milan, Arsenal, Atlético de Madrid, Chelsea, FC Barcelona, FC Internazionale Milano, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.
Three more clubs are expected to join before the first season – and another five will qualify annually based on their performance during the previous season.
What is the format for the competition?
The clubs will play midweek fixtures while continuing to play in their national leagues.
Starting in August, two groups of 10 clubs will play home and away fixtures, with the top three in each group qualifying for the quarter-finals.
The teams finishing fourth and fifth will compete in a two-legged play-off for the remaining quarter-final positions.
A two-leg knockout format will be used to reach the final at the end of May, which would be a single fixture at a neutral venue.
What about women’s football?
A tournament will be launched “as soon as practicable after the start of the men’s competition” to “advance and develop the women’s game”, the league said.
Why have they started the European Super League?
The Super League said the pandemic has “accelerated the instability in the existing European football economic model”.
It said: “In recent months extensive dialogue has taken place with football stakeholders regarding the future format of European competitions.
“The founding clubs believe the solutions proposed following these talks do not solve fundamental issues, including the need to provide higher quality matches and additional financial resources for the overall football pyramid.”
