Erling Haaland breaks Premier League record for goals in a season
Man City striker Erling Haaland has broken the Premier League record for most goals in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 34 goals jointly held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.
Haaland’s 35th league goal of the campaign came in a 3-0 win against West Ham, taking him past the previous record holders. He had already set the record for the most goals in a 38-game season, surpassing Mohamed Salah’s 32 goals for Liverpool in 2017-18.
Even better news, 22-year-old Erling Haaland still has five games left to increase his tally. The Norwegian striker stated that he was “really happy and proud” to break the record and that it was a special moment. His 35 goals are also the most by a player in a single campaign in the English top division since Ron Davies scored 37 for Southampton in 1966-67. However, Dixie Dean still holds the overall record with 60 goals in 39 games for Everton in 1927-28.
