Erik ten Hag was not overly excited about Manchester United’s performance in their 2-0 FA Cup win at Wigan on Monday night, but told his players ‘job done’ after the victory.
Diogo Dalot scored the opening goal in the first half, with Bruno Fernandes winning and converting a penalty after the break in a pretty routine victory for the Premier League club over the League One side.
Wigan did create some chances, with Andre Onana forced into an impressive save early on, but otherwise the Red Devils had an easy enough night, creating plenty of chances but missing most of them.
Those misses have not cost the United forwards, though, and they are in the hat for the fourth round, where they will play either Newport County or Eastleigh.
Ten Hag was not getting too excited about the win, but was satisfied with the result.
‘The FA Cup is all about winning, it is knockout. You want to finish the job,’ Ten Hag told ITV. ‘That is what I said in the dressing room “job done”.’
The likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay all missed good opportunities for United to extend their lead and Ten Hag admitted it should have been a more comfortable win.

‘Oh, definitely,’ he said. ‘In the first half I think we created five or six very good chances. I think it was very good football. We should have taken more, but if you don’t score you have to stay focused and I think we did that tonight.’
‘I don’t know [why the chances were missed]. You can’t always say why you’ve missed chances. There were some good attacks and good chances, but we didn’t take them, but the way we created them was OK.’
The Red Devils have got a favourable draw in the next round, while other heavyweights have tougher tasks, but Ten Hag is not thinking about silverware yet, just on facing Tottenham next in the Premier League.
‘It is too far,’ he said of FA Cup glory. ‘You have to go game to game, especially in the cup. Our focus is on Spurs now.’
