Erik ten Hag has responded to claims that Manchester United star Marcus Rashford ignored the club’s fans after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham.

The England international forward has endured a horrific season so far, registering just two goals across 22 appearances.

Rashford has been dropped to the bench in recent weeks and United have not fared any better without him in the XI, going four games without a goal.

The 26-year-old came on for the last 33 minutes against West Ham but again failed to make much of an impact.

After the match, Rashford reportedly went down the tunnel without acknowledging the away supporters at the London Stadium.

Ten Hag was quizzed about that in his post-match press conference but played the incident down and said: ‘I haven’t seen it. I’m not sure if that happened.’

Speaking more generally about United’s latest defeat, as well as reflecting on his team’s lack of goals, Ten Hag added: ‘We have to play two more games this week but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves. No-one.

‘We have to take the responsibility, if you are a player for Manchester United you have to do it together. Everyone has to be accountable and take responsibility.

‘They are capable. I know Marcus Rashford can score a goal, Rasmus Holjund can score a goal, Antony can score goal, Alejandro Garnacho can score a goal, Bruno Fernandes can score a goal, Scott McTominay can score a goal.

‘We have the scoring abilities in our squad and also from set-plays. In this moment, we are not doing it.

‘We have to stick together but also they have to believe in themselves that they can do it, that they can get where they have to be, where you have to score and that is in the box, especially in the six-yard box.

‘There you have to arrive as a striker. We attack with 11 so with one of them.’

Asked about criticism of struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund, Ten Hag said: ‘I think he is a very strong character and he can deal with those stresses. I took him off, he was ill during the week. A little bit of a lack of power. So in that sense, I protected him.’
