Erik ten Hag has provided an update on Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof after the Manchester United defenders were replaced in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Arsenal.
Martinez came off after 66 minutes on Sunday, replaced by Harry Maguire as United fell to a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates.
The former Ajax star was booked moments earlier, seemingly injuring himself in the process after crashing through Eddie Nketiah on the halfway line to halt an Arsenal counter attack.
Six minutes from full-time, ten Hag replaced his other starting centre-half with Lindelof coming off for Johnny Evans who saw out the game alongside Maguire in an unfancied pairing at the back.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, ten Hag explained Lindelof was struggling with illness during the game with Martinez forced off with a foot issue.
‘Victor was ill so he had to come off,’ ten Hag said.
‘Licha [Martinez] said he had a problem with his foot. I am not sure how or what if it’s an injury. We have to wait and see and make the diagnosis.

Martinez was also replaced in United’s opening game of the season against Wolves, coming off at half-time but was back in the starting XI the following week against Tottenham.
The 25-year-old suffered a season-ending foot injury in April last season during a Europa League clash with Sevilla, suffering a fractured metatarsal bone in his right foot.
United went into the game against Arsenal without two other first choice defenders in Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw.

The former Real Madrid star came off with an unspecified knock in the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last Saturday with United ruling him out ‘for a few weeks’ in a brief statement this week.
Shaw, who ten Hag has deployed at centre-half in the past, is facing a longer period out with reports suggesting he could be sidelined until November.
United will hope for their injury problems to ease during the international break, returning to action against Brighton on Saturday 16 September.
