England’s bowlers fight back on second day of first Ashes Test

BBC Sport says Well, England’s bowlers – not helped by the fielders – are doing their best to fight their way back into this Test match.

The day started well for the tourists with Ollie Robinson having Marcus Harris caught in the slips for three.

David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne then shared 156 for the second wicket but were England were guilty of not helping themselves with Ben Stokes bowling Warner off a no-ball on 17, before Rory Burns dropped him on 48 and Haseeb Hameed missed a chance to run him out at short leg.

But England have fought back well in the last hour or so. Jack Leach – who has been attacked by Australia and hit for five sixes – dismissed Labuschagne for 74 before Steve Smith had a rare Ashes failure, being caught behind off Mark Wood for 12.
