England vs Netherlands: More than 70,000 tickets sold for Wembley UWNL match
England will walk out at Wembley tonight to face the Netherlands with the support of more than 70,000 supporters filling the famous stadium.
The news was announced on 23 November via the Lionesses on their official X account.
Two of the strongest nations in women’s football will meet at Wembley on Friday 1 December 2023. Both sides will be hunting a win, but it will be much more vital for England to win – after losing both their last two matches.
England need a win to boost their hopes of topping the group and reaching the Nations League semi-finals. Even if England win both their final games, it still might not be enough to top the group.
England must reach the final to book Team GB’s place at the final.
The Netherlands sit at the top of the group. They have been impressive so far, taking nine points from an available 12. England have had a bit of a bumpy ride, and appear to have struggled to get back into form following a long run at the World Cup – they lost the final against Spain 1-0.
The Lionesses have beaten Scotland and Belgium at home but have struggled with their away games – losing both to the Netherlands and Belgium.
Anything but victory at Wembley leaves England looking likely to be eliminated.
England travelled to Utrecht to face the Netherlands in the reverse fixture in September. The Dutch scored a late goal to take the win and no doubt England will be looking for their revenge.
