England vs Latvia live on TV – predictions, lineups, team news, where to watch
England vs Latvia live on TV – the Three Lions go head-to-head with fellow top-of-the-table team Latvia. It marks the second match under new boss Thomas Tuchel, and the boss will be looking to get another win under his belt, after a convincing 2-0 win over Albania on Friday. Latvia also recorded an opening win, scoring a 1-0 victory over Andorra.
England’s opening game may not have produced silky football, but the team looked very much in control and are only a few days into the new Thomas Tuchel era. The Three Lions are expected to beat Latvia tonight – at Wembley!
England vs Latvia match preview
Myles Lewis-Skelly had a night to remember on Friday, the Arsenal teenager scoring his first senior England goal (becoming the youngest-ever England player to score on their debut) before Captain Harry Kane added to the score – marking his 70th goal for his country.
The second half was less pretty for England and a bit of a forgettable 45 minutes. But they were able to keep Albania to a minimum for the entire match, with the team struggling to create any meaningful chances against England.
Latvia are aiming to make it to the finals for the first time as an independent nation. The quest to make it to the 2026 World Cup started with a win during a tight contest with Andorra.
Latvia sit just below England (on goal difference) although Serbia who are still in the Nations League relegation battle won’t begin their World Cup qualifiers until June and Alabania will be out to prove a point against Andorra tonight.
The win meant Latvia, the 140th-ranked team in the world, had ended their four-match winless sequence.
England and Latvia have never met in a senior men’s international before, but the women’s team crossed paths in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, where the Lionesses won 20-0.
Team News
Anthony Gordon has withdrawn from the squad after being injured during the match against Albania. Tuchel says Gordon’s injury was “a bit worrying.”
Otherwise, everyone else is fit and ready to go. It’s not clear if Tuchel will field the same team or try some new legs, with Reece James, Jordan Henderson, Levi Colwill and Jarrod Bowen hoping to be given the chance to impress the new boss.
Aaron Ramsdale, Jarell Quansah and Morgan Gibbs-White could also feature.
Latvia have no fitness concerns and having never played England at senior level, its unclear how they might consider setting up.
England possible starting lineup:
Pickford; James, Guehi, Colwill, Livramento; Rice, Henderson; Bowen, Bellingham, Rogers; Kane
Latvia possible starting lineup:
Zviedris; Jurkovskis, Balodis, Cernomordijs; Savalnieks, Melniks, Savaljevs, Ciganiks; Zelenkovs, Ikaunieks; Gutkovskis
WTX Sport: 3-0 Lativia
We’re only a week in to the Tuchel era and we’d expect the new boss to try out some new legs since Friday’s game. England should win comfortably and we’d expect them to have most of the possession/
Sportsmole: England 4-0 Latvia
It would not be overly harsh to suggest that England’s performance on Friday left quite a bit to be desired, but Tuchel’s men should have no trouble whatsoever swatting aside Latvia.
Even with a defence-heavy formation, the 11 Wolves should be powerless to quell a refreshed Three Lions attack as Tuchel continues his perfect start to life in the dugout.
